Milton ‘Bud’ Bachman
Milton “Bud” Bachman, 85, died after losing his battle with cancer on Sunday, July 25, 2004 in Lodi.
Mr. Bachman was born on March 17, 1919 in the town of Los Gatos to the late Julius and Anna Bachman. He attended Campbell High School and graduated in 1937. He went on to attend San Jose State College for three years until he joined the Navy in 1941.
He served as a storekeeper aboard a supply ship which was docked at Maui on Dec. 7, 1941, the day Pearl Harbor was bombed.
Bud was a member of Morning Light Lodge No. 42, IOOF in Campbell for over 60 years. He moved to Livermore in 1952 and lived there until 1980.
When Bud retired from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in 1980, he and his wife, Bobbie, moved to Pioneer where they lived for 17 years.
Bud and his bosom buddy, Harry Peacock, who preceded him in death by five years almost to the day, are together again. Some in the Pioneer area might remember Bud Bachman when he worked at Amador Station on the corner of Highway 88 and Inspiration Drive East.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta “Bobbie” Bachman; daughter and her husband, Lauralee and Alan Edberg; daughter, Christy Bentley; two stepchildren, Colleen Frick and Steven Rombough; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; a nephew and two great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Graveside service for will take place on Thursday, July 29 at 11 a.m. at the Amador Memorial Cemetery
on Highway 88 in Pioneer. Arrangements are being handled by McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.

Francis Clemons Hinton
Francis Clemons Hinton, 87, died on Sunday, July 11, 2004 in Roseville.
Mr. Hinton was born on April 20, 1917 in Hurricane, Utah. There was no public services held at the family’s request. Inurnment was at the Sanger City Cemetery
in Sanger, Texas. Arrangements are being handled by Daneri Mortuary in Jackson. Condolences may be offered to the family at daneri@cdepot.net.
Barbara Ann Chiurco
Barbara Ann Chiurco, 82, formerly of Pine Grove, died in Walnut Creek on July 29, 2004. She was born in California on April 11, 1922.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Aug. 2 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Jackson. Arrangements were handled by McCrory’s Funeral Home in Pine Grove.

Mary Laverne Reagan Hummel Smith
Mary Laverne Reagan Hummel Smith, 71, lost her short courageous battle with cancer on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at her home in Jackson surrounded by love and family.
Mrs. Smith was born at home on Feb. 25, 1933 in St. Louis, Mo.
Before World War II, her family moved to Wilmington where she lived until her marriage to Chester John Hummel. They raised three children and then divorced in 1975. She soon met and married Leroy “Smitty” Smith in 1976.
Smitty’s work moved them to Logan, Utah where they lived for 12 years.
When Mary’s parents, Vester and Wanda Reagan, needed her help, Smitty decided to retire and they all moved to Jackson where they loved the beauty and slow pace of Amador County.
Mary had always made homemaking her life’s work. She enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, knitting and creating a home that welcomed all. Her one passion outside her home was playing bingo at the Jackson Casino where she made many friends.
She is survived by daughter, Susan Hummel of Jackson; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Suzanne Hummel of Logan, Utah; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Johanna Reagan of Jackson; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy “Smitty” Smith, age 66 in 1998, a daughter, Rhonda Mauricio, age 48 in 1999, and her parents, Wanda Reagan, at 89 in 2001 and Vester Reagan, at 92 in 2002.
Upon her request, there will be no service. The family will have a celebration of life potluck gathering on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. at Rollingwood Estates Mobile Home Park Clubhouse. For more information, call 223-2793.
Inurnment will be in the Garden of Golden Memories North Pavilion at Sunset View Cemetery
in Martell. Arrangements were handled by Sierra Aftercare Center in Jackson.

Myron Ray Trigg
Myron Ray Trigg, 52, of West Point, died in an accident on Wednesday, July 28, 2004, in Roseville.
Mr. Trigg was born on May 15, 1952 in Oroville. For 38 years he worked as a tree trimmer and most recently was a foreman for Provco. He was a Stockton resident for 40 years prior to moving to West Point where he lived for the past five years.
Myron enjoyed fishing, camping and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Trigg of West Point; son, Keith Trigg of Stockton; daughter, Karen Trigg of Napa; step-children, Gregory Vierra, Jr., and Jami Vierra both of Jackson and Michael Vierra of Ione; brothers, Butch, Wayne and Michael Trigg all of Stockton, Galen Trigg of Salinas and sister, Cindy Knoernschild of Stockton; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie Trigg and siblings, Rick Trigg and Brenda Smalley.
Memorial service will take place on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. at the Discovery Free Will Baptist Church, 10300 N. Highway 99 in Stockton. Inurnment will be private at Cherokee Memorial Park in Lodi. Arrangements are being handled by Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home in Lodi.
Lorene Catherine Barber
Lorene Catherine Barber, 90, died peacefully on Monday, Aug. 2, 2004 at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson.
Mrs. Barber was born on July 27, 1914 in St. Louis, Mo. She worked her way through college and graduated in 1938 from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing then moved to Hollywood that same year.
During World War II she was employed by Lockheed Aircraft as an industrial nurse. She was also active in civil defense and the Red Cross during those war years and was a special duty nurse and supervisor at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Burbank. She was also a Registered Nurse in hospitals in the Los Angeles area until she retired due to health reasons.
She had married her high school sweetheart, Ben Barber in 1942 and they had 50 good years together. In 1981 the couple moved to Pioneer.
She is survived by Edward A. Seavey of Pioneer, who became their “adopted son” in 1988. She was his “mum” and he took care of her as any good son would do. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Ben Barber who died of cancer on Jan. 17, 1992.
Lorene was a very happy, unique and independent woman who was very thankful to the Lord for the good life she lived. She was always happy helping other people and passing on her wealth of knowledge to everyone in which she came in contact.
At her request, there will be no service. Arrangements were handled by the Neptune Society of Northern California in Sacramento. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Amador, P.O. Box 595, Jackson 95642.
Joan Carole Williams Sokolis
Dec. 21, 1944 - Oct. 15, 2004
Joan Carole Williams Sokolis, 59, died peacefully in the early hours of Friday, Oct. 15, 2004 at her daughter's home in Sacramento.
Mrs. Sokolis was born on Dec. 21, 1944 in Pittsburgh, Pa., and moved to southern California in 1955. She graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 1966, married Gary Sokolis (they would later divorce in 1995) and began fulfilling her dream of teaching. Joan moved to Jackson in 1985 and began working for the Amador County Unified School District.
The strength and passion with which Joan led her life was an inspiration to many. As a devoted teacher for almost 40 years, she was committed to giving all that she had to her classroom of students and their learning.
As a mother, she loved deeply and supported wholeheartedly her three children, Jamie, Keri and Greg. As a grandmother, her love and adoration of her three young grandchildren was incomparable.
As a mother-in-law to Matt Wilson and mother-in-law-to-be to Mike Ingerson and Seema Lal, her heart opened wide and welcomed them to her family.
As a friend, Joan lit up the room with her laughter, brought joy to many hearts with her smile and gave of herself without a second thought.
Joan fought several cancers over many years and her perseverance in fighting the disease set an example that many will remember for years to come. It seemed that each time her illness recurred, she came to battle with all her energy and conquered it many times. Although cancer took Joan's life, it did not win. Her passion for life, for living never ceased to shine. This will always live on in the hearts and minds of all who knew her and the lives she touched as a teacher and friend. May we all show such passion for living and know such strength and tenacity in achieving that which we believe.
The love, encouragement and support that poured out from the community as Joan struggled to beat this disease time and time again, meant the world to her and her family. With the help of so many, she was able to find the energy and inner strength to keep going.
Joan's children, Jamie, Kari and Greg, extend their deepest thanks from the bottom of their hearts to the friends, co-workers, acquaintances and complete strangers who have done so much for their mom.
She was in the care of her children and Hospice of Sacramento and was strong and loving until the end. Joan was blessed with kindness and love with the lives of three children, three grandchildren and many friends whom she leaves behind. She will be dearly missed by co-workers, family and friends from coast to coast.
Graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. at Sunset View Cemetery
in Martell. All are welcome to the graveside memorial and all are welcome to celebrate her life and to pay their respects to Joan Sokolis. Arrangements are being handled by Daneri Mortuary of Jackson.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in her name to Amador STARS, P.O. Box 208, Jackson 95642, to help provide local resources for those fighting cancer.
Celebration of the life of Joan Sokolis
A reception and gathering to celebrate the life of Joan Sokolis will be held at the American Legion Hall, 12134 Airport Road, Sutter Creek, immediately following the graveside service.
